The CD Howe Institute is welcoming Dr. Al Mussell as a Fellow-in-Residence and a Trade and Supply Chains Policy Scholar with a focus on agriculture and agri-food issues.
“It is a distinct honour, and really quite humbling, to join a remarkable group of people as a Fellow-in-Residence at the C.D. Howe Institute,’ says Dr. Mussell, founder and lead of Agri-Food Economic Systems. ‘I’m very pleased that the C.D. Howe Institute is taking a focused interest in agriculture, food and all that Canada has to offer, and to be given an opportunity to contribute my insights to its work in this critical area.”
Dr. Mussell is a senior research fellow at the Canadian Agri-Food Policy Institute. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in agricultural economics from the University of Guelph and a doctorate in agricultural economics from the University of Minnesota, where he was a Fulbright Scholar. Prior to founding Agri-Food Economic Systems, he was a senior research associate at the George Morris Centre in Guelph for 15 years. He has also been president of the Canadian Agricultural Economics Society, chair of the Ontario Pork Industry Council, and has served on the board of the Progressive Dairy Operators.”
This appointment is in addition to his existing work with Agri-Food Economic Systems; it does not influence Agri-Food Economic Systems’ capacity for engagement with clients on research projects. Rather, it is an opportunity to share and amplify economic research on Canadian agriculture and food with a broader audience.
