Sustainable agriculture–related careers are in high demand, especially in science, technology, environmental stewardship, renewable energy and ag innovation roles. A major United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)–Purdue University report predicts 104,766 agriculture‑related job openings annually through 2030, many tied to sustainable and environmentally-focused roles. Employers increasingly want graduates who can integrate technology, data and sustainability into decision‑making.

Michigan State University (MSU) is deeply positioned to prepare students for climate‑smart agriculture, agriculture technology, food systems sustainability, renewable energy and environmental careers. Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems (SAFS)

  • Undergraduate minor. MSU offers a SAFS undergraduate minor, emphasizing experiential learning in agricultural and food system sustainability.
  • Graduate specialization. Any MSU graduate student can add the SAFS graduate specialization, which includes required field courses and electives in areas like agricultural ecology, organic pest management and biotechnology.
