Leadership role to influence seed industry's prospects in United States and Canada

Scott Sanders, the general manager of Peterson Farms Seed, has taken a significant leadership role by being named the president of the Independent Professional Seed Association (IPSA).

This announcement was made at the organization's annual conference.

IPSA, established in 1989, plays a critical role in representing seed companies across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The association focuses on various crops including corn, soybeans, small grains, and forage seeds. It also encompasses over 100 associate and affiliate members who contribute to every facet of the seed industry.

IPSA aims to tackle some of the most pressing challenges facing independent seed companies today. One of the key initiatives under his presidency will be to enhance cooperative funding for applied research.

This effort is crucial for developing new biotechnological advancements and providing comprehensive product information to its members.

IPSA has already funded more than $1.5 million in both private and public research projects, a testament to its commitment to the seed sector.

Sanders' recent feature in the January 2025 issue of Seed World magazine highlights his perspective on the opportunities and hurdles that lie ahead for the seed industry.

“As long-time IPSA members, Peterson Farms Seed knows firsthand the value of this interconnected group of seed professionals,” Sanders said. “I’m excited to serve as a voice for our regional producers.”

As president, Sanders is set to influence the future landscape of the seed industry by promoting innovative research and fostering a collaborative environment among its members.

?? The Multi-Plant System Processing 20 Million Hogs Annually in the Midwest JBS USA operates multiple large-scale pork processing facilities across the Midwest, including major plants in Iowa, Minnesota, and Indiana. Combined, these facilities have the capacity to process approximately 20 million hogs annually.

Each plant operates high-speed automated slaughter systems capable of processing up to 20,000 head per day, followed by fabrication lines that break carcasses into primals, sub-primals, and case-ready retail products.

Hog procurement is coordinated through electronic marketing platforms that connect regional contract finishing operations and independent producers to plant demand schedules. This digital procurement system allows for steady supply flow and scheduling efficiency across multiple facilities.

Processing plants incorporate comprehensive food safety systems, including pathogen intervention technologies, rapid chilling processes, and integrated cold-chain management. USDA inspection is embedded throughout the harvest and fabrication stages to ensure regulatory compliance and product integrity. Finished pork products — from bulk primals to retail-ready packaged cuts — are distributed through coordinated logistics networks serving domestic and export markets.
