Lighting Technology: LED Lamps For Farm

The design and management of a farm’s lighting system greatly affects its energy efficiency.  Upgrading lighting fixtures will often give the best return on investment to reduce energy costs.  Replacing older lamps with energy-efficient lamps will reduce energy consumption and often improves the quality of the lighting.

For more than forty years, lighting emitting diodes, or LEDs, have been used as indicator lights in many electronic devices.  LEDs are long-lasting, tough and energy-efficient and have now been adapted for general lighting purposes.  Lighting Technology:  LED Lamps for Home, Farm & Small Business is a factsheet written by UW-Extension’s Rural Energy Program Senior Outreach Specialist Scott Sanford on the cost savings utilizing LEDs in tie-stall and freestall dairy facilities.
